The core of any automation audit is not proprietary. It is a structured look at where the hours go, and a motivated owner can run a rough version alone in two hours. Here is the recipe, the same skeleton our paid audit hangs on, minus the depth and the outside eyes.
Hour one: the list
Write down every task your business does more than once a week. Not projects, tasks: the invoice run, the schedule shuffle, the quote follow-ups, the report someone builds, the inbox sorting, the data retyped from one system into another. Walk the week chronologically, Monday morning to Friday close, and the list will hit thirty items faster than you expect.
For each task, two quick guesses: hours per month, and who does it. Precision does not matter yet. Order of magnitude does.
Hour two: the ranking
Score each task on three questions, one to five each:
- Repetition: is it done the same way every time, or is every instance different
- Resentment: does the person doing it wish they were not
- Reversibility: if a machine got it wrong once, would the mistake be cheap to catch and fix
Read the top of the list
High scores on all three mark your first automation candidates, and the top one is usually obvious by the time the scoring is done. What the DIY version cannot tell you is the how, what the build looks like, what it should cost, what to watch out for, and that is the half the full audit adds.
