Ask a shop how they price work and the answer usually involves one experienced person and a feel developed over years. Ask where that feel came from and the answer is every job they have ever quoted. That history exists on paper: hundreds of old quotes, with materials, hours, and prices, sitting in folders nobody opens.
That pile is an estimating engine that has never been switched on. Reading and comparing at volume is what changed, so the machine can now do what the estimator does when they think this looks like that job from two years back, except across all of it at once.
